N-CASE and STIL Team up for High School event

High school students from the Chicago Public School system were invited to a hands-on learning event on Wednesday at the Feinberg School of Medicine. Seven high school students who had selected medicine as a career interest were guests at a "mini residency" program that allowed them the opportunity to learn suturing technique, intubation, venipuncture, AED use, laparoscopic surgery, caring for a burn victim, ultrasound guided draining of cysts, and abscess drainage. The various learning stations all featured state of the art simulation equipment as well as guided instruction by Northwestern faculty and staff.

In situ Training for newborn emergencies

Emergecny medicine teams, made up of doctors and nurses resuscitate a "newborn" in the emergency department at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. In situ training reveals systems "glitches" which would otherwise remain latent until a true emergency occurs.

Take your Daughter to Work Day

On April 23, Simulation Technology and Immersive Learning participated in Northwestern University's Take Our Daughters To Work Day by putting on an emergency assessment skills station. Using high-fidelity patient simulators, participants learned basic physiology and emergency assessment skills. Skills learned included airway assessment, checking for a pulse, defibrillation, basic cardiology, and basic hemodynamics. The day was designed to educate, expose participants to various medical specialties, and increase awareness.
